Thomas Tuchel hints at interest in managing Barcelona after Xavi announcement

Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel has admitted he is eager to work in Spain after being linked with Barcelona to replace Xavi Hernandez.

After Saturday’s 5-3 defeat at home to Villarreal, Xavi announced he will step down at the end of the season. Barcelona already has been linked with managers like Rafa Marquez, Thiago Motta, Michel, and Roberto De Zerbi.

During a visit to the Bayern fan club ‘Red Stars’ in Heidenheim, Thomas Tuchel expresses his desire to manage in Spain.

Tuchel said: “Moving abroad would appeal to me again. Spain has an extraordinary league. From my perspective, and based on my experience working with Spaniards, they are characterised by a tremendous amount of self-confidence. When you speak with Spanish players, I quickly get the sense that you are engaging with the person.”

The 50-year-old Tuchel recently admitted he felt more appreciated in England than he does in Germany.

The German coach has worked with Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea. He replaced Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern Munich last March and is under contract until 2025.

Bayern Munich is two points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga after 19 matches.
