Real Madrid edged closer to the La Liga title after a comfortable 4-0 win over title rivals Girona on Saturday night.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side moved five points clear at the top of the table after a 4-0 win against Girona at Bernabeu on Saturday. Real Madrid now has 61 points after 24 matches, five points more than Girona. This was Girona’s first defeat in the league since their last loss to Madrid in September.
The home side opened scoring in the 6th minute through Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian was not closed down from miles outside the box and had a curling shot that flew into the top corner.
Jude Bellingham doubled Real lead in the 36th minute. The English star beat the off-side trap and ran onto a Junior through ball. The forward took a touch around the charging goalkeeper and then fired into an empty net.
Real Madrid superstar Bellingham finished the job in the 55th minute. Vinicius Junior went past his marker out wide and charged into the box. His effort was parried by the goalkeeper into the path of Bellingham who scored the third goal. Bellingham left the pitch in the 59th minute after hurting his ankle.
Just six minutes later, Rodrygo scored the fourth goal for Ancelotti’s side. Vinicius stole the ball from Couto and then Rodrygo charged in on goal before firing past the goalkeeper.
Real Madrid won a penalty in the 90th minute after Guler was fouled by Couto. However, Joselu missed his penalty after his effort hit off the post.
