Bayern Munich CEO says club will stick with Thomas Tuchel amid Mourinho links

Bayern’s CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen insists manager Thomas Tuchel has the full backing of the club despite a humiliating defeat to Leverkusen.

Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen outplayed Bayern Munich in a 3-0 victory on Saturday night. Tuchel’s side now is five points behind Bayer Leverkusen after 21 matches.

Leverkusen created plenty of chances and racked up eight shots on target, whereas Bayern only mustered one shot on target despite having 61 percent possession.

Thomas Tuchel is under immense pressure after Saturday’s defeat. Some Bayern fans protested against him with ‘Tuchel out’ posters outside the club training center on Sunday.

However, Bayern’s CEO Dreesen defended Tuchel and insisted the club has no plan to sack the German coach.

Speaking to Sky Germany, Dreesen said: “Nothing has changed [with Tuchel staying].

“We knew it would be a difficult game but now we have to look ahead. Deserved defeat, but we won’t give up.

Bild newspaper has claimed Jose Mourinho could reunite with Harry Kane at Bayern Munich as the Portuguese are being considered one of the favourite candidates to replace Tuchel at the helm.

Bayern Munich will face Lazio in their upcoming Champions League round of 16 clash on Wednesday.
