Barcelona eye Champions League-winning Hansi Flick as their top target

Barcelona reportedly contacted former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick regarding a potential move to Camp Nou.

The current Barcelona boss, Xavi, will step down at the end of the season, prompting Barcelona to begin their search for a replacement. However, competition for top candidates is expected to be fierce, with Liverpool also in pursuit of a new manager.

In an attempt to gain an advantage in securing one of the most sought-after free agents, The Athletic reports that Barcelona has approached Flick to assess his interest in the position.

Although there hasn’t been a formal job offer, Barcelona officials are said to admire Flick for various reasons, particularly his availability without a transfer fee.

With a successful track record at Bayern Munich, Flick’s resume is impressive, and Barcelona also values his personality and ability to manage high-profile players, making him a potentially suitable candidate.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has previously expressed his admiration for Flick, who clinched two Bundesliga titles along with the 2019/20 Champions League trophy and is reportedly dedicating his free time to learning Spanish.

Reports suggest that Flick, whose tenure as Germany’s national team coach faced challenges, would be interested in joining Barcelona. Recently, he enlisted agent Pini Zahavi, known for his close ties to Laporta and his significant role in Robert Lewandowski’s transfer to Camp Nou in 2022.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi is also under consideration by Barcelona, while PSG’s Luis Enrique and Bayern Munich’s Thomas Tuchel are viewed as potential contenders for the role.

However, Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim is unlikely to be on the shortlist, as Barca sporting director Deco has publicly questioned whether the Portuguese manager possesses the necessary experience.
