Injury setback delays Thibaut Courtois return for Real Madrid

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois’s return to the pitch has been delayed after suffering a fresh knee injury in training.

Real Madrid confirmed on Tuesday that Courtois had suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee in training. The Belgian goalkeeper could miss the rest of the season as he is set to be unavailable for another four to six weeks.

Following tests carried out today, Thibaut Courtois has been diagnosed with a ruptured internal meniscus in his right knee,” Madrid said in a statement on Tuesday. “The injury occurred during today’s training session. The injury will be monitored.”

Courtois has not played for Real Madrid this season due to tearing the ACL in his left knee back in August. The 31-year-old keeper was on the brink of a return to the team after returning to training.

Carlo Ancelotti recently said Courtois could face Manchester City in the Champions League quarterfinals at the Santiago Bernabeu on April 9.

Courtois is unlikely to be fit to play for Belgium at Euro 2024 this summer. He also had a public falling out with Red Devils boss Domenico Tedesco.
