Dani Alves released from prison on bail following rape conviction

Former Brazil and Barcelona footballer Dani Alves was released from prison after paying €1m in bail, while appealing a rape conviction.

A Spanish court confirmed on Monday that Dani Alves has been released from prison after posting his €1m bail bond. The 40-year-old Alves has spent the last 14 months in a prison in Barcelona. Last month, he was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in 2022.

The Former Juventus player has handed over his Brazilian and Spanish passports and is prohibited from leaving the country. He is also not allowed to approach or communicate with the victim. Alves must come to the court every Friday and provide a phone number so he can be contacted and located.

Both Alves’ lawyer and the state prosecutor have appealed against the conviction. His lawyer is seeking his exoneration while prosecutors want his prison sentence increased to nine years.

After Alves was released from prison on bail, his ex-wife Dinorah Santana told Spanish television: “For me, he doesn’t exist. For me, he has died.

Alves won three Champions Leagues and six Spanish leagues with Barcelona from 2008 to 2016. He also won many titles with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
