Ralf Rangnick emerges as shock target for Bayern Munich after Xabi Alonso blow

Bayern Munich is considering alternative options after Xabi Alonso decided to remain at Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

Reports in England and Germany suggest that Xabi Alonso’s representatives have informed Bayern Munich and Liverpool that he plans to stay at Leverkusen.

Alonso was the number one target to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool or Thomas Tuchel at Bayern this summer. Both clubs are considering alternative options as they now expect Bayer Leverkusen manager to remain with the Bundesliga leaders next season.

According to Kicker, former Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has emerged as a new target for Bayern Munich. Rangnick has a good relationship with Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund and reportedly is ready to leave the Austria national team after Euro 2024 to join the Bundesliga giants.

Bayern also have been linked with other managers, such as Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Jose Mourinho.

Asked about Bayern’s hunt for a new manager, director of sport Max Eberl told Sky Sport Germany on Thursday: “As soon as possible. We are now entering April. It would be nice if we could get it done in April – without there being an ultimatum.

If it takes longer, then it takes a bit longer. We want to make the best decision.”

He added: “We are looking at several coaches. We are sounding out the options and seeing what is really feasible. Yes, Uli Hoeness said that Xabi is a topic. That is legitimate.

Christoph and my job is to find the right coach. We need to have a few discussions to find out what would be the best fit. There are general conditions that must be met.
