Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic expressed his dissatisfaction, labeling it as “unfair,” that his team fell short of winning the title.
Despite the city of Dortmund brimming with anticipation, the club’s hopes of clinching their first Bundesliga title since 2012 were dashed in their final game of the season at home against Mainz, resulting in a disappointing 2-2 draw and conceding the top spot to Bayern Munich.
“I hope you understand that I can’t give you the most analytical analysis,” Terzic told Sky Germany in an emotional interview after the final whistle that had him searching for the right words several times.
“We wanted it badly, the whole city, the whole stadium. We worked hard for this position, we had a great chance. It feels like shit.
“When you see the guys lying on the ground, when you see them sitting in the dressing room, when you see the emptiness, it feels unfair,” he ranted.
However, Terzic openly acknowledged that Bayern Munich deserved to win the title, as he began the interview by stating:
“Congratulations to FC Bayern. Whoever is at the top after 34 games deserve it – even if it is extremely difficult today.
Analyzing his team’s disappointing 2-2 draw, Terzic explained:
“Things didn’t go as well as they did in the previous weeks, and then it got difficult. You see how close it is in the Bundesliga. If we hadn’t missed the penalty, if we had scored the 2-2 goal a bit earlier, we could have taken more from the game.”
