The saga of Manuel Neuer takes a new turn as Hasan Salihamidzic accuses Neuer of putting himself above the club
Manuel Neuer’s angry comments about Bayern goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic’s dismissal have been called out by the club director Hasan Salihamidzic.
Salihamidzic thinks Neuer’s comments about Tapalovic were selfish
Manuel Neuer has been sidelined with an injury because of a broken foot and in his absence, Bayern Munich have decided to fire his long-time goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic. Neuer made his stance clear in an interview with the Athletic, in which he said: “It really knocked me down”.
This was met with a huge backlash from the Bayern Munich hierarchy, especially CEO Oliver Kahn, who said Neuer’s comments “do not do justice to him as captain or to the values of FC Bayern”.
Now Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has expressed the same sentiments as Kahn, as he said to the BILD: “I understand that Manuel is personally affected. But I would have expected a different behavior from him, especially as a captain.
“The Tapalovic decision, which was also difficult for us personally, had nothing to do with Manuel in this matter, and we explained that to him.”
When he was asked about whether Neuer will receive any punishments, he said: “If there are any consequences, we will first talk to Manuel about it himself.
“The disappointment that he describes about Tapa’s release also prevails with us because Manuel has put his personal interests above the interests of the club here.
“We will do it internally, and discuss it reasonably with him. Oliver classified the parts of the interview that are relevant for Bayern correctly. We have to clarify a very important topic with Manuel.”
