Babbel claims Nagelsmann’s girlfriend was one of the reasons he got sacked

Markus Babbel has claimed that Nagelsmann’s relationship with a journalist from the BILD was a “big problem” during his time as Bayern Munich coach

Markus Babbel has claimed that Lena Wurzenberger’s relationship with Julian Nagelsmann, which led to her stepping back from covering Bayern Munich, caused trust issues at the club before Nagelsmann’s sacking. Wurzenberger has now left the media organization completely.

Former Bayern and Germany defender Markus Babbel told Blick: “I know that Nagelsmann’s relationship with a BILD reporter was a huge topic in the dressing room. It didn’t go down well at all that he was with her. His girlfriend was therefore a big problem for Bayern.

“There was a lack of trust because some players just weren’t able to communicate what they were thinking anymore. Because they were afraid that everything would end up in the newspaper.”

Bayern Munich parted ways with Julian Nagelsmann this week, despite the club being in second place in the Bundesliga, one point behind Borussia Dortmund.

Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has been appointed as his successor, and his first match in charge will be against Dortmund following the international break.

Nagelsmann and his wife Verena ended their 15-year marriage before he began a relationship with Lena Wurzenberger.

He was reportedly on a skiing holiday with his 30-year-old girlfriend in Austria when he received the news of his dismissal from Bayern Munich.
