Leon Goretzka expressed his surprise at the news of Julian Nagelsmann’s departure from Bayern Munich, saying that the players had a close relationship with the outgoing manager.
Nagelsmann’s sacking has ‘affected’ Goretzka
The 28-year-old midfielder added that the decision to sack Nagelsmann came as a shock to him and the rest of the team.
While Bayern acknowledged that it was “not an easy decision” to let go of the coach. They felt that it was necessary given the team’s recent poor performances and results.
Speaking to TV2, Goretzka said, “I would be lying if I said the last few days hadn’t affected me. It was extremely difficult. We’ve had a very close relationship with Julian. I probably saw him more than my family. It was a shock!”
Thomas Tuchel has been appointed as the new manager of Bayern Munich. Replacing Julien Nagelsmann, the former Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea manager has joined the club on a contract that runs until June 2025.
Thomas Tuchel’s first match as the manager of Bayern Munich will be against his former club, Dortmund on April 1.
