Bayern Munich has officially announced the acquisition of Eric Dier from Tottenham, securing his services until the conclusion of the season, and with a possibility to extend for an additional year.
Eric Dier will reunite with his former Tottenham teammate Harry Kane at the German club, marking the collaboration just a few months after Kane’s departure from north London to join Bayern Munich.
A statement from Bayern read: “FC Bayern have signed Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur on a deal until 30 June 2024, with the option for a further year. The England international defender will wear the No.15 shirt in Munich.”
Dier said upon his confirmation as a Bayern player: “This move is a dream come true for me, because as a child you want to play for a club like Bayern one day. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world and has an incredible history. I want to help the team with my versatility in defence. I’m really looking forward to my new teammates and the fans at the Allianz Arena, which in my eyes is one of the best stadiums in the world.”
Since coach Ange Postecoglou assumed charge at Tottenham this season, Eric Dier has seen a diminished role. In contrast to his 33 appearances in the Premier League last season, Dier has only made four top-flight appearances in the first half of the current campaign. This shift has fueled his decision to depart from north London and rejoin Harry Kane in the Bundesliga.
The participation of the England international in the Bayern squad for the Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim on Friday is still uncertain. Currently positioned as the second team in the German top-flight, Bayern Munich trails leaders Bayer Leverkusen by four points.
