Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano will have an extended period on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury sustained in the 1-0 Bundesliga win against Union Berlin on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old French international, Dayot Upamecano, suffered the injury while chasing Union’s Benedict Hollerbach towards the end of the first half at the Allianz Arena.
Despite getting treatment and managing to play until halftime, he was substituted by debutant Eric Dier before the restart.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel said: “It’s a torn fibre in the back of the thigh. It’s going to be weeks, not days.
“That’s really tough to take for Upa and for us. He’s been in top form in recent weeks.”
Upamecano wasn’t the sole Bayern player to suffer an injury in the closely contested win. Full-back Konrad Laimer was substituted due to a knock just four minutes from the end, and midfielder Joshua Kimmich concluded the game with a shoulder issue.
Both players will undergo assessments before the upcoming match against Augsburg on Saturday.
