Manchester United look to Bayern youngster to bolster their attacking options

Manchester United have reportedly reached out to Bayern Munich regarding the potential signing of striker Mathys Tel.

Bayern Munich prospect Mathys Tel, who will turn 19 in April, is currently in his second season with Bayern after joining from Rennes in 2022. Despite limited appearances, he has attracted interest from clubs across Europe.

Sky Sports Germany has now reported that United, along with two other unnamed Premier League clubs, have made inquiries about the availability of the French youngster.

United’s desire to bolster their forward line has been well-documented, with manager Erik ten Hag expressing frustration over the lack of funds for signings in January. Tel is among the options being considered for the upcoming transfer window.

Interestingly, United had discussions with Tottenham Hotspur last summer regarding Harry Kane before his move to Bayern.

However, Tel is reportedly committed to staying at Bayern and competing for a spot in the team, aiming to establish himself as a club legend. Despite Bayern’s plans to sign a new striker to replace Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Tel is determined to prove himself.

Tel, who can play in various positions in attack, has contributed six goals and three assists in 27 appearances across all competitions for Bayern this season, mostly from the bench. He notably scored against United in their 4-3 win during the Champions League group stage in September.

Earlier this week, 90min reported that United’s new shareholders INEOS are actively identifying areas for improvement as they begin restructuring the club internally. They are particularly focused on securing an experienced striker and have endorsed the pursuit of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.
