Xavi has always been sure of midfield maestro De Jong’s commitment to Barcelona even with Manchester United links.
Will De Jong join ten Hag again?
Erik ten Hag may have identified De Jong as a talent and developed him into the player he is today but Xavi is sure that a reunion between the two will not happen soon.
“I think he was really clear to me: he wanted to stay with us. So there was no doubt,” Xavi said at a press conference.
“Now he’s our player, I’m really happy and satisfied with his performances, his leadership. He’s in a very good moment, like all the team.
“I think Frenkie is enjoying on the pitch and this is the most important thing.”
De Jong has started 20 games for Blaugrana this season and has scored twice. However, there were speculations that Barcelona wanted to push him out of the club.
Xavi’s talks come at a time when Barca themselves have been accused of colluding with some refereeing officials.
