Joao Cancelo has completed a season-long loan move to Barcelona, along with his Portugal teammate Joao Felix.
Despite the ongoing financial pressures in Catalonia, Barcelona has been actively pursuing loan deals for both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo and now has got both deals over the line.
They have had to loan, sell, and release first-team players during the summer transfer window to remain compliant with domestic and UEFA Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations in order to afford these acquisitions.
Both agreements are straightforward loan deals with no purchase clauses. Prior to his departure from the capital, Felix extended his contract with Atletico Madrid from 2027 to 2029.
Cancelo has found himself on the fringes of Pep Guardiola’s plans at Premier League champions Manchester City, with a loan spell at Bayern Munich last season.
Bayern made an attempt to outbid Barcelona for Cancelo on deadline day, but Xavi successfully secured his target in the closing hours of the summer transfer window.
