Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham may receive assistance from American popstar Taylor Swift in his bid to win the 2023 Golden Boy award, as a social media campaign has been initiated.
Bellingham is currently in a competition for the prestigious award with Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde and had been falling behind in the vote counts. However, on Tuesday, fans of Taylor Swift began a social media campaign against Balde.
An old tweet quoting the Barcelona star went viral by Taylor Swift fans (Swifties), in which he said: “Do I like Taylor Swift? No, I don’t like her music.”
The Swifties were unhappy with Balde’s statement and decided to vote in numbers in favour of Bellingham for the 2023 Golden Boy. By midnight on Wednesday, the English midfielder’s vote count reportedly rose from 30 percent to 89 percent, as per Tribuna.
Additionally, Bellingham has begun his Real Madrid journey in remarkable fashion, notching five goals in just four La Liga matches. In contrast, Barcelona’s left-back Balde has participated in three league games but hasn’t managed to record a goal or an assist for Xavi’s squad.
Moreover, Bellingham’s upcoming match will be with the England national team, as they face Ukraine in a Euro 2024 qualifying fixture on September 9.
