Marc-Andre ter Stegen still hopes that Messi returns to Barcelona

Marc-Andre ter Stegen continues to maintain hope that Lionel Messi will make a return to Barcelona, as “many individuals are still in contact” with the Inter Miami star.

Messi has been in excellent form since joining Inter Miami after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in June. He has already secured his first trophy with the MLS club by winning the Leagues Cup and has contributed with 11 goals and eight assists in 11 matches.

While Messi is enjoying his time in the U.S., his former Barcelona colleague Ter Stegen expressed his disappointment about a failed reunion during the summer when Messi ultimately chose not to return to Camp Nou. Nonetheless, the German goalkeeper remains optimistic that the World Cup champion will eventually come back to the club.

Ter Stegen said of Messi: “He would certainly have been an asset for us. Maybe he’ll return in another role at some point. Barcelona is his club and will always be a big part of his life. Many people here are still in contact with him. A few players he was very close with are now in Miami with him.”

Messi came close to reuniting with Barcelona after his departure from PSG. His father, Jorge Messi, had engaged in discussions with Barcelona President Joan Laporta, but a final agreement did not materialize, leading the Argentina captain to opt for a move to Inter Miami instead.
