Real Sociedad’s manager, Imanol Alguacil, directs his team to manage fatigue against Barcelona by alternating between possession and active defense.
Real Sociedad is aiming to halt a dismal streak at home against Barcelona, as they previously considered the Reale Arena a troublesome venue for the Blaugrana. Alguacil asserts that Barcelona attributes this to treating matches against them in the same manner as they do with any top team.
Alguacil told Mundo Derpotivo: “Barca has respected us a lot for a long time and they come out differently against us.
“They like to have the ball and so do we. But we have known how to be united and get out in transitions when we have not been able to gain possession. There are going to be moments for everything, fatigue accumulates for everyone, and we have to know how to manage it,”
Following the late equalizer conceded to Rayo Vallecano last weekend, Alguacil openly acknowledged that Real Sociedad must enhance their defensive performance this season. While Real Sociedad boasted one of the most formidable home defenses in Europe last season, they have already allowed nine goals in seven games this campaign.
“It is true that we have conceded more goals and chances than last season, let’s see if we can improve there. With tight scores, the rivals go for it and take risks and if you don’t kill them, one can fall to them like what happened with Bebe. It’s happening a lot.”
In the previous season, Real Sociedad secured an away victory against the Blaugrana and were putting up a strong fight against them at the Reale Arena. However, they ultimately suffered a 4-1 defeat. The upcoming match, poised to be an intriguing clash, results from Barcelona’s defensive challenges this season.
