Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez claimed that the victory against Real Sociedad improves the team’s situation following their loss in El Clasico.
Barcelona, despite delivering a significantly subpar performance for most of Saturday’s match against Real Sociedad, appeared unlikely to secure a victory at the Reale Arena. Nevertheless, they managed to do so, all thanks to a late, dramatic winner by Ronald Araujo.
The Catalans had a frustrating evening, clearly outplayed by La Real. However, Araujo’s goal made all the difference in the end, although their performance will face scrutiny.
According to Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez, the La Real result was seen as vindication, as he believed that the roles in that match were reversed compared to El Clasico last weekend. In the El Clasico, the Blaugrana lost late to Real Madrid despite dominating for the majority of the first 60 minutes.
Xavi said: “Last week we deserved to win and we lost, and today when we didn’t deserve to win, we won.
“We have suffered, we have created few chances and we have not been comfortable, but it’s a very important victory. We take three golden points. It feels spectacular,” Xavi added.
This result, particularly in how it unfolded, should significantly boost Barcelona’s confidence as they turn their focus to Tuesday, when they will face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.
