Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin has refuted claims of reaching an agreement with Diego Simeone to guarantee his future but does acknowledge that talks are in an advanced stage.
Rumors emerged after Simeone’s sister and agent, Natalia Simeone, was spotted at the club last week, suggesting that he had extended his contract until 2027. However, Gil Marin clarified to RTVE that negotiations are still in progress, as reported by Relevo.
“To grow you need stability and to have stability you need results, and Diego, so far, is synonymous with results. I hope we extend him for these three years. It is not yet closed, but it is on the right track and God willing, we do another three more after that.”
Simeone faced a precarious situation for much of the last season, as Atletico Madrid experienced one of their worst first halves of the season since his appointment.
While it was unlikely he would ever be dismissed, there was significant speculation about the potential conclusion of his tenure.
However, the team’s resurgence in the second half of the season only reinforced the belief in his abilities among fans and within the club. As a result, both the fans and the club will be relieved to avoid any discussions of his departure for another three years.
