Arsenal is facing competition for signing Real Sociedad’s star, Martin Zubimendi, and the competition comes from not only Barcelona but also Bayern Munich
Zubimendi has been consistently impressive this season, including a dominant performance against Barcelona, demonstrating his abilities in the Champions League as well. While he was previously heavily linked with Barcelona, the Catalan club cannot meet his €60 million release clause. In contrast, Arsenal has the financial capacity to do so, and given that Zubimendi shares an agent with Mikel Arteta, it is believed that the Gunners are also keen on his services.
Now, according to reports from BILD (via MD), Bayern Munich has emerged as the latest team interested in the 24-year-old player. After missing out on Joao Palhinha in the summer, Thomas Tuchel is seeking to reinforce the midfield. Furthermore, there have been concerns with Joshua Kimmich. The report even suggests that Bayern Munich may consider making a move for Zubimendi in January.
However, convincing Zubimendi to leave his current club will be the first challenge. He has repeatedly expressed his happiness in Donostia-San Sebastian, living out his dream of playing in the Champions League with La Real. It seems highly improbable that he would leave in January, given his strong attachment to the club, which would likely prevent him from leaving midseason and leaving his current team in a challenging position.
