Donny van de Beek, the sidelined player of Manchester United, has disclosed that he failed to secure a summer transfer to Real Sociedad.
In the final weeks of the transfer window, La Real linked themselves with a list of midfield reinforcements as they readied for their return to the Champions League this season.
Initially recognized as a potential choice, United highlighted Van de Beek as they aimed to offload the Dutch international. However, no deal materialized, and he stayed at Old Trafford.
Nevertheless, his situation in Manchester has further worsened, as he has only played two minutes of Premier League action under Erik ten Hag so far this season.
The likelihood of a January departure for the former Ajax playmaker is increasing, as he seeks to revive his career. Frustration mounts for the 26-year-old as he misses out on securing a move to San Sebastian.
He told AS: “The time comes when a decision has to be made. I have to start playing games very soon, if it’s not possible at United, then I will go to another club.
“This is a healthy ambition and I make a good living at United, but money has never been my motivation.
“I was close to going to Real Sociedad, but at the last minute, the clubs could not reach an agreement.”
If La Real decides to rekindle their interest in van de Beek in January, he will be eligible to participate in the Champions League, as he did not feature for United in the competition during the 2023/24 season.
