Barcelona Sporting director Deco confirmed the club’s intention to sign Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense in January.
Barcelona’s sporting director Deco clarified that Barcelona does not plan to seek a replacement for Gavi, who sustained an anterior cruciate ligament tear while on international duty, leading to an extended period on the sidelines.
With Gavi’s absence, Barcelona can allocate approximately 80 percent of his wages to register another player, creating the opportunity for Vitor Roque to make the move.
Deco says he and coach Xavi are discussing their plan for the upcoming transfer window, telling reporters: “Xavi and I are coordinated for the market. We are not going to replace Gavi because there is no other player like him on the market, much less in January. And We will see what position we strengthen. We will surely opt for Vitor Roque, but nothing has been decided.”
In January, Barcelona officially announced an agreement to sign 18-year-old forward Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense. Although the initial plan was to complete the deal next summer, Barcelona now seems inclined to expedite the process, potentially welcoming him into the team for the remainder of the season.
Following a frustrating 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano in La Liga over the weekend, Barcelona aims to recover as they face Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday. Both teams currently possess nine points from four matches, setting the stage for a crucial clash at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
