Xavi expressed his admiration for Alvaro Morata and disclosed that he discussed a potential transfer to Barcelona with the striker.
The Barcelona manager confirmed that he had a conversation with Atletico star Morata, expressing his desire for the player to join the Catalan club. Xavi also conveyed his appreciation for Alvaro Morata, expressing eagerness to welcome him to the team. Regrettably, the anticipated move did not come to fruition.
Xavi said to reporters: “It’s true that I wanted to sign him. There was that possibility. I was talking to him and I wanted him in the team, but it couldn’t happen. He’s a forward that I really like. Morata is a great forward. He is a generous footballer, who works a lot for the team, he works a lot. He goes very well into spaces and helps his teams a lot. I really like him a lot. With him and with [Antoine] Griezmann, Atletico has a world-class forward line.”
Reports suggest that the Catalan giants attempted to sign the Spanish forward in January 2021 while he was on loan at Juventus from Atletico, as per Sport.
Alvaro Morata was facing limited playing opportunities at the Italian club and contemplated returning to his parent club before a potential move to Camp Nou.
However, Juventus was unwilling to release Morata at that juncture, resulting in the proposed transfer to the Blaugrana not coming to fruition.
