LaLiga’s blocking of Gavi’s registration has resulted in the loss of his first-team status and shirt number at Barcelona.
Barca registered the Spain international as a first-team player in January and declared that he would be assigned the number six shirt.
Earlier in March, LaLiga got the right to cancel Gavi’s registration by overturning a court’s verdict that initially favored Barcelona.

Due to the limited space in Barcelona’s wage bill, they have been informed that they cannot register the 18-year-old’s contract.
Barca has placed their teenage talent back on his youth contract. This implies that he may depart the club as a free agent at the end of the season.
It is unlikely for the teenager to leave Camp Nou. Nevertheless, Gavi will have to wear his previous shirt number, 30, for the rest of the season.
Gavi has played 37 games for Barca in the current season, following a breakthrough campaign in 2021-22, and his demotion in official status does not imply that he cannot continue representing Xavi’s team.
