Real Madrid’s injury woes continue as David Alaba forced off the field with a knee injury

Real Madrid’s center-back, David Alaba, suffered a knee injury during the first half of their match against Villarreal on Sunday evening.

Real Madrid defender David Alaba twisted his knee uncomfortably on the turf during the La Liga clash. After being down on the ground, holding his left knee for two minutes, he was assisted off the field.

If Alaba’s injury proves to be as severe as it seemed, Real Madrid will be left with just two fully fit senior center-backs. Earlier in the year, midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has already filled in as a central defender, adding to the considerations that manager Carlo Ancelotti must now weigh.

Madrid has experienced several knee injuries this season. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois suffered an ACL tear a week before the start of La Liga. Militao, in the first game, endured less than an hour of play before sustaining his own ACL injury. Eduardo Camavinga is sidelined until the new year due to a knee ligament tear suffered while on duty with the French national team.

The extent of the defender’s injury will probably require tests to determine its severity. If serious ligament damage is confirmed, it would likely result in him being ruled out for the entire season.
