Carlo Ancelotti finally extends his contract with Real Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti, initially speculated to become Brazil’s manager in 2024, has opted to extend his contract with Real Madrid.

Despite earlier reports suggesting Carlo Ancelotti’s interest in managing Brazil when his contract with Madrid expired in the summer of 2024, the 64-year-old, currently in his second stint with Los Blancos, has committed to a contract extension until 2026.

A statement from the club’s website reads: “Real Madrid CF and Carlo Ancelotti have agreed to extend our coach’s contract until June 30, 2026.

“In his five seasons as coach of Real Madrid, he has won 10 titles: 2 Champions League, 2 Club World Cups, 2 European Super Cups, 1 League, 2 Copas del Rey and 1 Spanish Super Cup.

“Carlo Ancelotti is the only coach to have won 4 European Cups and the one to have achieved the most victories in the history of this competition (118), and he is also the first coach to win the five major European Leagues (Italy, England, France , Germany and Spain).”

Brazilian FA would be disappointed by Ancelotti’s new contract

Rumors regarding Ancelotti’s future have persisted for several months, with the Italian coach being considered as a potential successor to Tite, who departed from his position as the head coach of the Brazil national team after the 2022 World Cup.

Despite Real Madrid not securing the Champions League or La Liga titles in the previous season under Ancelotti, his track record as a successful manager at this level makes the extension a logical move.

While there were earlier speculations linking Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi and Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso to the role, those rumors appear to have been dispelled, at least for the time being.

A formal statement from the manager is expected to be released shortly. In terms of on-field activities, his team is set to resume La Liga competition on January 3 against Mallorca, followed by an away match against Arandina in the Copa del Rey three days later. Additionally, they will face Atletico Madrid on January 10 in the Supercopa de Espana.
