Atletico Madrid has reportedly joined Barcelona in the race to sign Mason Greenwood, and they have initiated transfer talks with Manchester United.
The 22-year-old Mason Greenwood is currently on loan at Getafe in Spain and has attracted attention since resuming his professional career after being cleared of charges in February 2023.
Mason Greenwood has impressed with five goals and four assists for Getafe this season, catching the attention of top La Liga clubs. Despite having a contract until 2025 with Manchester United, it appears unlikely for Greenwood to return to Old Trafford. A permanent transfer is anticipated to be finalized in the summer of 2024.
According to Marca, Atletico Madrid has initiated discussions with Manchester United regarding Mason Greenwood and is exploring the terms of a potential deal. Other La Liga clubs, including Barcelona, Valencia, and Real Sociedad, have also been linked with the one-time England international.
Reports suggest that a transfer deal worth £40 million ($51 million) might be reached for Mason Greenwood when he departs Manchester United.
However, despite some speculation indicating that Barcelona was willing to offer the talented winger their No.10 shirt, which was previously worn by club legend Lionel Messi, a move to Camp Nou is currently deemed “highly unlikely.”
