Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler may finally have the opportunity to make his much-anticipated debut for the club as La Liga resumes this week after the winter break.
Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler, who arrived from Fenerbahce in a €20 million deal in July, suffered a knee injury that prematurely ended his pre-season, and subsequent setbacks kept him from playing a single minute for Madrid in 2023.
In December, the club decided not to rush Guler onto the pitch, delaying his debut until 2024 at the earliest. However, there is now optimism for a potential debut this week as Mallorca visits the capital, with reports indicating that Guler trained “normally” on Monday.
Given the importance of fitness and conditioning for Guler at this stage, uninterrupted training sessions are considered positive signs for the 18-year-old Turkey international. Another training opportunity is scheduled for Tuesday before the game at the Bernabeu on Wednesday evening.
Guler was included in the squad for Madrid’s La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano in early November, but the circumstances of the tense 0-0 draw were not considered suitable for his debut.
Since then, Guler has been kept from making his first appearance, but there is now a growing sense that his opportunity may finally arrive. Additionally, Madrid might see the return of Vinicius Junior to action against Mallorca.
The Brazilian has declared his fitness after a six-week absence due to a torn thigh muscle sustained while on international duty in South America back in November.
“I’m fine, very good. Now all that’s left is for the coach to choose. I’m fine now and ready to go. What remains of the season… I ask that in 2024 we can win many titles,” is his assessment.
