Xavi has shared his perspective on Barcelona’s ability to acquire the services of Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland.
Kylian Mbappe is poised to depart Paris Saint-Germain at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, with Real Madrid currently leading the race for his signature. Premier League powerhouse Liverpool has also emerged as a potential contender for the talented French forward.
Addressing the ongoing speculation surrounding Mbappe’s future, Barcelona manager Xavi acknowledged that, unlike their arch-rivals, Barcelona lacks the financial capacity to secure the signings of either Mbappe or the prolific Manchester City striker, Haaland.
Speaking to reporters, the former Spanish international said, “Haaland or Mbappe? We can’t think of Haaland or Mbappe to join Barca now. We can’t afford these players, unfortunately. I’m happy with the players I have. We need to reach our best level as at this club we need to be always at top level.”
Additionally, the Catalan club has recently finalized the acquisition of Brazilian prodigy Vitor Roque, who made the switch from Athletico Paranaense. Given Barcelona’s financial constraints, Roque is expected to be the sole addition the club can make in the current January transfer window.
While there were earlier connections with Argentina’s U17 World Cup standout Claudio Echeverri, often referred to as the ‘next Lionel Messi,’ he is set to join Manchester City.
