Reports indicate that Real Madrid is eager to sign Sevilla right-back Juanlu Sanchez to inject youth into the position.
Carlo Ancelotti currently has Dani Carvajal (31) and Lucas Vazquez (33) at his disposal, with Nacho Fernandez (35) serving as an alternative. However, both Carvajal and Vazquez, the elder pair, will be out of contract this summer.
Negotiations for an extension with Vazquez are presently suspended, and the decision might hinge on their confidence in securing Juanlu.
Last week, Diario AS disclosed Real Madrid’s interest in the 20-year-old, and they have since provided additional details on the club’s pursuit.
Los Blancos have been tracking him for almost ten years, first becoming aware of him at the age of 12, and consistently receiving positive feedback.
As a regular player with the Spanish youth teams, he also possesses the ability to play in central defense. The plan is to bring Juanlu in this summer, allowing him to compete with and learn from Carvajal.
The primary obstacle is the cost. Juanlu recently extended his contract until 2026, and it includes a relatively reasonable €20 million release clause.
However, Real Madrid aims to secure his services for a lower fee, given their financial priorities with Kylian Mbappe and Alphonso Davies.
They prefer a more cost-effective deal. As it stands, Sevilla has little intention of agreeing to such terms, making a deal currently unlikely.
This season, Juanlu has made 21 appearances for Sevilla, amassing 1,292 minutes on the field and providing three assists. In La Liga, he has started slightly over half of the team’s games, facing competition with Jesus Navas for playing time after Gonzalo Montiel’s departure to the Premier League.
Although not achieving extraordinary feats, Juanlu has been a notable positive for Sevilla this season, displaying a reasonable adaptation to La Liga football.
