Real Madrid has confirmed that Lucas Vazquez will be sidelined due to a thigh injury, causing him to miss the upcoming Copa del Rey match against Arandina on Saturday.
This adds to the significant injury concerns that Real Madrid has faced this season, with key players like Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao, David Alaba, and Ferland Mendy also dealing with various health issues. The latest setback involves Vazquez, who has been diagnosed with a thigh strain, further limiting the team’s defensive options.
A statement from Real Madrid read: “After the tests carried out today on our player Lucas Vazquez by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his right thigh. Evolution pending.”
Although Real Madrid has not officially provided a timeline for Lucas Vazquez’s recovery, El Chiringuito indicates that he is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks. If this holds true, Vazquez will be unavailable for Real Madrid’s participation in the Supercopa de Espana in Saudi Arabia later this month.
Real Madrid’s injury list is almost as long as their squad list!
Los Blancos will face city rivals Atletico on January 10, with the potential final against Barcelona or Osasuna scheduled for January 14. Real Madrid’s return to La Liga action is slated for January 21, hosting Almeria at the Santiago Bernabeu, followed by an away fixture against Las Palmas a week later in the Canary Islands.
There is a possibility that Vazquez might make a comeback in time for an eventful start to February, during which Real Madrid is scheduled to visit Getafe and then face Atletico and title contenders Girona at home.
The 32-year-old Vazquez has featured in 20 matches across all competitions for Real Madrid this season, contributing with one goal and three assists.
While Vazquez is set for a period on the sidelines, Real Madrid has seen the return of Dani Carvajal and Eduardo Camavinga to first-team training. Both players have been included in the squad for the upcoming match against Arandina. However, midfielders Toni Kroos and Aurelien Tchouameni have been rested by coach Carlo Ancelotti.
