Frenkie de Jong pleased to end the peculiar 12-game streak

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong expresses satisfaction as a peculiar 12-game streak comes to an end against Osasuna.

Barcelona secured their third consecutive victory across all competitions on Thursday by defeating Osasuna 2-0 in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final in Riyadh. This sets up a Clasico showdown in Sunday’s final, where the Catalans aim to achieve back-to-back successes in the competition.

Barcelona has endured a challenging period, but there are indications that things are moving in the right direction. This is exemplified by the fact that they won a match by a margin of 2+ goals for the first time since September (5-0 vs Royal Antwerp). Frenkie de Jong commented on this statistic in his post-match media interaction, as reported by Marca.

“It was an issue, it’s been a long time since we’ve won by more than one goal. At the end of the day, it’s about winning and playing well. We played a serious game, the first half wasn’t so good but the second half was better.”

Ahead of the final, Barcelona has one less day of rest compared to Real Madrid. However, Frenkie de Jong believes that this won’t be an issue.

“There are two days, more than enough. We don’t have to travel, we haven’t played extra time. We’ll be ready.”

A victory in the Spanish Super Cup could potentially be a significant turning point for Barcelona in a season that had faced challenges. Nevertheless, Real Madrid will undoubtedly pose the toughest challenge in the final.
