Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has announced that he will depart from his position at the end of the season.
Xavi has officially confirmed in a press conference that he will be stepping down from his role as Barcelona’s coach at the end of the season. This announcement follows Barcelona’s 5-3 defeat at home against Villarreal in La Liga, leaving the defending champions 10 points behind league leaders Real Madrid.
Xavi Hernández: “I want to announce that on June 30 I will no longer continue as the coach at Barça. I think the situation needs to change course, and as a culer, I cannot allow the current situation.”
The pressure was mounting on Xavi ever since the start of the season but the former La Masia graduate oversaw a patch of bad results recently which has led to his current predicament.
Barcelona is yet to release a statement on the matter but there will no doubt be a storm of news, rumors, and speculations following Xavi’s announcement and his possible replacement.
