Getafe 0-2 Real Madrid: Joselu brace sees Los Blancos claim La Liga’s summit

Real Madrid has reclaimed the top spot in the La Liga title race after defeating Getafe at the Coliseum, putting an end to the hosts’ 10-month unbeaten streak at their home stadium.

Real Madrid has gone to the top of the La Liga table after a brace from Joselu put the visitors ahead of Getafe.

After a cautious opening ten minutes, Real Madrid generated the first clear-cut opportunity of the game through a lofted through ball over the top of the Getafe defense. Nacho Fernandez delivered the ball, which landed at the feet of Vinicius Junior. The forward then surged into the box, compelling goalkeeper David Soria to make a sharp save at his near post.

The breakthrough arrived a few minutes later when Lucas Vazquez produced an excellent cross from the right flank, connecting with the towering Joselu, who emphatically directed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.

Following the goal, Madrid controlled the game against a lackluster Getafe side. Joselu had a chance to extend both his and his team’s lead in the 38th minute, receiving a low cross from Vazquez on the edge of the box. Despite striking the ball well, Soria managed to palm it around the post.

Real Madrid vs Getafe: La Liga seems to be a two-horse race now!

After halftime substitutions, Getafe showed signs of improvement early in the second half, with Mason Greenwood, on loan from Manchester United, hitting the post with a swift strike from the right side of the box.

However, Getafe’s hopes were dashed as Joselu scored again in the 56th minute. Controlling a precise pass from Vinicius with his right foot, Joselu elegantly curled the ball into the bottom corner with his left.

Despite a golden opportunity for Vinicius to make it 3-0, Soria made a remarkable save, denying Vinicius’s attempt after a fake first-time shot.

Soria continued to frustrate Vinicius, thwarting another one-on-one attempt from the Brazilian with a well-timed save. Getafe nearly capitalized on Madrid’s missed chances when Borja Mayoral found himself through on goal, but his well-struck effort hit the near upright and bounced clear of danger.

The score remained 2-0 until the final whistle, with both teams having opportunities to score. Consequently, Real Madrid now lead La Liga by two points ahead of Girona, while Getafe stays in 10th place.
