Xavi responds to rumors that he’ll remain at Barcelona beyond this season

Barcelona boss Xavi maintains that there have been no alterations in his plans for the future despite speculations suggesting otherwise.

Xavi has made it clear that he remains committed to leaving Barcelona after the current season.

In late January, the former Barcelona and Spain midfielder declared his intention to step down from his position at the end of the ongoing season. Currently, he is focused on preparing his team for their upcoming LaLiga fixture against Athletic Bilbao, who currently hold the fifth position in the league standings.

Barcelona’s performance has notably improved since Xavi’s announcement, securing 13 points out of a possible 15 in their recent matches. This positive streak has rekindled their slim hopes of challenging league leaders Real Madrid for the title.

“As of today, nothing has changed,” Xavi told a press conference.

“There is no more story than that. It all remains the same and we focus on the next game.

“It’s true we’ve done well recently; I see the team training great every day and the group of players is less tense than in the past.

“But tomorrow is a whole new story, here at Barcelona you have a challenge every day.

“The moment of the truth this season is coming, and we feel we have been good over the last weeks.”

Xavi tells of their preparation ahead of Athletic clash

Barcelona, currently occupying the third position in the league, secured a convincing 4-0 victory against Getafe in their previous match. This win adds to their recent successes against Osasuna, Alaves, and Celta Vigo, along with a 3-3 draw against Granada.

Their upcoming fixture against Athletic Bilbao will take place at San Mames, a venue they visited just over five weeks ago during the Copa del Rey quarter-finals, where they suffered a 4-2 defeat in extra time.

Xavi anticipates another challenging encounter as Barcelona aims to sustain their positive momentum in the league.

“Athletic is the most intense team in the league,” he said. “And they are confident.

“If we win, it will be a big step forward.

“It’s the perfect game to match them in intensity and rhythm. Against Getafe, we rediscovered our game. Against Athletic, we have to do the same.”
