Atletico Madrid interested in signing Robin Le Normand

Atletico Madrid is interested in signing central defender Robin Le Normand for a summer transfer, with the player valued at €40 million.

Atletico Madrid‘s defensive issues have resurfaced this season, particularly in recent weeks following a series of poor results. Los Rojiblancos have conceded in seven of their last eight matches, highlighting their defensive vulnerabilities.

Atletico Madrid’s strategy is to sign two central defenders in preparation for the summer, aiming to initiate the reshaping of their defense. One potential target is former Valencia central defender Gabriel Paulista, who impressed against Real Betis. However, Paulista’s contract with the club only extends until the end of the season. Additionally, Atletico’s Sporting Director Andrea Berta aims to secure another central midfielder during the summer transfer window.

One player Atletico Madrid has pinpointed as a potential defensive game-changer is Robin Le Normand. The Spanish central defender, recently naturalized, has been a stalwart in Real Sociedad’s defense for several years. Real Sociedad has been one of the standout teams in Spain, a fact that Atletico Madrid is well aware of.

A potential hurdle could be Le Normand’s price tag, as Marca reports he is valued at €40 million by La Real. Since Atletico Madrid is not keen on spending that much, they may explore ways to reduce the price. One option could be including left-back Javi Galan in the deal. Galan didn’t settle in his first six months at Atletico and is currently on loan in Donostia-San Sebastian.

Real Sociedad has historically been open to selling players for the right price. The 27-year-old has established himself in recent years and has earned 8 caps for Spain, likely to start for Luis de la Fuente. Despite this, his performance this season has been weaker compared to his previous two campaigns.
