Ahead of their game against Villarreal, Barca boss Xavi responds to Matias Messi’s comments about Joan Laporta
Barcelona may go 11 points clear of Real Madrid with a win against Villarreal but it seems the clubs is never too far removed from controversy.
Xavi plays down Matias Messi’s comments
Barcelona will be facing the Yellow Submarines on Sunday and Blaugrana boss Xavi admits that Villarreal won’t make it easy on them. Speaking in a press conference before the match, Xavi admired Villarreal’s qualities and why it would make them really hard to beat.
“Villarreal has a man-made team. Parejo is extraordinary, Reina brings a calmness to the game. It’s will be a very complicated game. One of the keys is who will have the ball more. We will try to remain aggressive without the ball.” Xavi said.
Xavi was then asked about Messi’s brother Matias, who claimed live on Twitch that they would kick Laporta out of Barcelona. Matias Messi has since come out and apologized for the comments. Xavi’s response was to play down the comments.
“If he apologized, that’s it. I know the family well, they are grateful people. When you’re wrong, you apologize. I have also been the first to do it when I have been wrong. You don’t have to give it more importance.” He added.
Whether Matias Messi’s comments will leave a mark on Lionel Messi’s legacy at Barcelona is unlikely. However, it seems he has burned some bridges for Leo at Nou Camp.
