Real Madrid and Toni Kroos are making progress towards finalizing a new contract for the player, indicating that he is “on the right track” to sign a new deal.
Toni Kroos, who has retired from Germany national team, has a contract with Real Madrid that expires at the end of the season, and he had mentioned the possibility of retiring this year.
Kroos won his fourth Champions League title with Real Madrid last season
The German star transferred from Bayern Munich to Madrid in 2014, and he has played a significant role in the club’s success throughout his lengthy tenure.
The 33-year-old hinted that he is planning to prolong his tenure in the Spanish capital.
“Everything is on the right track, but I also respect what the club wants: how and when it communicates,” he told reporters.
“There is a good relationship that I have with the club over the years and this issue has already been discussed for a while.”
Kroos added: “There is absolute trust on both sides. The club knew from the beginning that I was not going to do anything stupid.
“Theoretically, I could have signed for another team from January 1, but we didn’t even start with this nonsense. There is a lot of trust there. I will most likely stay that way for a while.”
On Wednesday, Spanish publication AS revealed that Kroos’ fellow teammate Karim Benzema had reached an agreement to extend his contract at Madrid.
