the Argentine megastar has reportedly been close to signing a new deal with PSG, although no official agreement has come in Messi contract talks
PSG’s football advisor Luis Campos has revealed that the club are engaged in contract talks with Lionel Messi’s camp and aim to reach an agreement soon.
Despite the temptation of MLS, Campos hopes to be successful in Messi’s contract negotiations
The 7-time Ballon d’Or winner and World Champion Lionel Messi will be out of contract with PSG in the summer but PSG’s football advisor Jorge Campos hopes to agree on a new deal to keep the Argentine at Paris.
Messi has been linked with big-money moves to MLS. A return to Barcelona is not on the cards due to the club’s troubling financial situation, which gives PSG even more clout in their negotiations with the 35-year-old.
Despite rumors of a verbal agreement between Messi and PSG back in December, there has been no concrete announcement made on the matter. Messi has been enjoying life in Paris in the meanwhile, scoring 15 goals and assisting 14 times so far this season.
“I would like to have him in this project, I cannot hide it, I would be delighted if he continues with us,” Campos told Telefoot.
“But we are still discussing at the moment to achieve this goal, to continue to have Lionel Messi with us.”
Campos was asked about Hakim Ziyech’s bizarre failed transfer to PSG in the final hours of the deadline day, to which he replied: “We had the player with us, we had done everything. But like in all transfers, we need the three parts, the player and both clubs, to work well.
“In this case, it worked very well for PSG, it worked well with Ziyech and unfortunately it didn’t work out for the last part.”
