Paris Saint-Germain considers Liverpool as the most serious and potent contender to secure the signing of French star Kylian Mbappé.
Speaking on Liverpool’s long-term interest in Mbappé, L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi said: “Liverpool wanted him when he was playing for Monaco,” he told talkSPORT.
“[Liverpool manager Jurgen] Klopp went to see him and they were negotiating while they were on the plane.
“The relationship between him, Liverpool, and Klopp is there. I think they have a chance.”
Despite Liverpool being a significant threat, Real Madrid is also a strong contender in the race to sign Kylian Mbappé. Klopp has reportedly been monitoring the player for nearly a decade. Both Liverpool and Real Madrid are vying for one of the most high-profile free transfers in football history.
Real Madrid is reportedly preparing to offer Mbappé €130 million per season to entice him to move to Spain. Mbappé has not given any indication about his future, leaving open the possibility of either staying in Paris or departing on a free transfer at the end of his contract.
Liverpool is currently keeping an eye on the transfer window, but their immediate focus is on a challenging set of fixtures. They will face Newcastle United and Arsenal in their upcoming two games.
