Christophe Galtier believed that Paris Saint-Germain could have achieved a more significant victory, even though Kylian Mbappe made history in Ligue 1 during their 3-1 triumph over Lens.

He broke the club’s all-time scoring record in the competition during the first half, as he scored in a dominant period for the team at Parc des Princes.

The hosts went on a rampage against their title rivals, with Vitinha and Lionel Messi scoring further goals in just nine minutes, while Salis Abdul Samed was sent off before that.

Despite a comfortable win, Galtier believed that his team could have put up a more impressive performance in the second half to live up to the occasion.

“It was important [to get the win]. It was a pleasure to win. We benefited from the numerical advantage [we had] in the first half.

“[But] as much in the second half, we let ourselves go a little bit. Players no longer respected the positions. We should have been more serious. We have them a little hope.”

Galtier’s victory on the pitch shifted the focus back to matters of the game, after a week in which he had been in the headlines for allegations of racism during his tenure as coach of Nice.

He received unequivocal support from PSG, and he expressed gratitude to the fans for their messages of goodwill and solidarity regarding the issue.

“It is important to have a lot of support, both [in] public, but also on a personal level. It is a great pleasure.

“All the messages that I have received publicly, it warms my heart, as much for me as for my family, my name. All my life I have been enriched by diversity, that’s for sure.”
