Guardiola focused on Everton rather than Real Madrid return fixture

Pep Guardiola has stated that Manchester City’s focus is currently on their upcoming match against Everton, rather than the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.

City are set to host Real Madrid in the second leg of their last-four tie next Wednesday, with the first leg ending in a 1-1 draw on Tuesday.

However, Guardiola has emphasized that his team cannot afford to take it easy before then, as they prepare to face Everton in a match that is important for both teams’ objectives in the Premier League.

Guardiola said at a press conference: “My thought is just Everton – no more than that.

“It’s 11 months working for the Premier League. We don’t have much time to Madrid because we play Sunday – thank you so much – but it’s a real, real priority, Goodison Park.”

Real Madrid will have one additional day of rest before the second leg, as they are playing on Saturday this weekend. Although Guardiola would have preferred to play on Saturday as well, he stated that he is no longer complaining about the schedule.

He said: “I can’t understand it but I’m not going to fight it anymore.

“I don’t understand it but we have to adapt. The schedule, it is what it is.”
