Despite Chelsea’s continued willingness to make significant financial investments in the current transfer window, Federico Valverde has restated his decision not to join the club.
Todd Boehly’s pursuit of assembling a competitive team to challenge Manchester City has reignited Chelsea’s spree in the summer transfer market. While Moises Caicedo and Nicolas Jackson are expected to make significant moves to the Blues, there is one player who has clarified his stance. Real Madrid midfielder Valverde has firmly rejected the possibility of joining the London club, expressing his desire to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Asked if he will be joining Chelsea this summer, he told reporters: “No, no, I am at Real Madrid. I try to enjoy and value every moment. I want to leave my mark on this team, which is the best in the world, and also continue to win titles for the fans.”
Having established himself in the first team in 2019, Valverde has solidified his position in midfield. Over the past four seasons, he has made over 30 league appearances in three of them, showcasing his consistency. Furthermore, he made a valuable contribution of seven goals in the previous campaign.
Although Madrid’s campaign concluded with a setback, experiencing a loss to Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final and securing a second-place finish in La Liga, Valverde’s season is not yet finished. He still has upcoming obligations with the Uruguayan national team, as they are scheduled to face Cuba on June 21.
