Chelsea signs Portuguese youngster Diego Moreira from Portugal

Chelsea has officially announced the acquisition of Diego Moreira, an Under-21 international from Portugal, from Benfica.

The 18-year-old player joined Benfica in 2020 from Standard Liege and was an integral part of the squad that secured victory in the 2022 UEFA Youth League.

After making his senior debut in May 2022, Moreira was a regular Benfica B team member throughout the last season.

The young winger is representing Portugal in the European Under-21 Championship, where they are set to compete against England in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

Moreira’s addition to the team was a free transfer, and it follows the recent signings of forwards Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal and Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig. Additionally, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has completed a permanent move to AC Milan.

The new Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, is carrying out changes in the squad to restructure it in preparation for the upcoming season.

Furthermore, it’s worth noting that Arsenal has successfully secured the signing of midfielder Kai Havertz, while N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy have moved to Saudi Arabia.

Alongside these transfers, midfielder Mason Mount will also depart from Chelsea after Manchester United agreed to sign the England international for an initial fee of £55 million.
