Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal boss, firmly states that he will not let midfielder Thomas Partey leave the club this summer, even with the arrival of Declan Rice.
Since the transfer window opened, the gossip columns have consistently mentioned the name of the Ghanaian midfielder. Various reports have linked him with Juventus and suggested that the Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli is interested in him.
Talk of his departure has only intensified since Arsenal spent £105 million to acquire Rice from West Ham.
However, Arsenal head coach Arteta asserts that Partey is content in north London and firmly believes that he can play alongside fellow defensive midfielder Rice.
“Every time I spoke to him and every time I have a conversation with him, his will is to stay with us. For me, there’s nothing there at all.
When asked about the possibility of Partey and Rice playing together in the same team, he replied: “They can play together, and that was always part of my plans.”
“You want to improve the squad and have more quality. We need players who can play together but we need players in the same position who can fight for their places. It’s something we haven’t had over the last few years and we wanted to improve that and that’s why we bought Declan.”
On Saturday night, the Gunners will be continuing their pre-season tour of the USA, playing a game against Premier League rivals Manchester United at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
