Blaugrana look to sign Sporting CP midfielder to replace the 34-year-old veteran Sergio Busquets at the end of the season
Replacing Sergio Busquets could be the most important piece of business for Barcelona in the summer. The 34-year-old midfielder has only months left on his contract and could leave for free in the summer. As reports suggest, Barcelona have settled on Sporting’s Manuel Ugarte as a potential replacement for Busquets.
Busquets replacement is already chosen by Barca
It seems that Busquets might make a move to MLS with David Beckham’s Inter Miami interested in the midfielder. There are also offers from the Middle East from the likes of Al-Nassr as well.
Regardless of what happens with Busquets, Barcelona has to find a solution to replace him. Super agent Jorge Mendes has been in contact with Barcelona to do just that and while he initially proposed Ruben Neves to Barcelona, Xavi has rejected the offer. However, one of Mendes’ other clients, Sporting CP’s Manuel Ugarte might’ve caught the eye of Barcelona.
The Uruguayan midfielder has created a lot of buzz this season, attracting attention from Premier League clubs like Wolves. However, it remains to be seen if Sporting are ready to let him go.
Barcelona’s financial situation has to be considered as well. Laporta has to get rid of some of the deadwood in order to sign any new players.
