Manchester United six-month investigation of Mason Greenwood is about to end

Mason Greenwood faced suspension from both training and matches after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped its case against him in January.

The charges against Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood involved attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm.

The 21-year-old remains suspended from training and matches while an internal investigation is conducted following the Crown Prosecution Service’s decision to discontinue the case against Greenwood for the aforementioned charges.

Last year on January 30, Manchester United declared that Greenwood would not participate in training or matches “until further notice.”

Manchester United will play against Wolverhampton Wanderers in their opening Premier League fixture of the 2023/24 season on Monday. Initially, United aimed to reach a decision before this match, as stated in previous guidance. However, the club now places a higher emphasis on ensuring the accuracy of the decision-making process and its subsequent communication rather than adhering to a specific deadline.

The club has now entered the consultation phase of the process, actively engaging with key stakeholders, including, but not limited to, the women’s team of the club.
