Kevin De Bruyne is a notable absentee from Man City’s UEFA Super Cup match

Kevin De Bruyne was the notable absentee from Manchester City’s traveling squad for the UEFA Super Cup clash against Seville.

A hamstring injury had sidelined De Bruyne after he exited the Premier League victory against Burnley with a recurring problem he had suffered in last season’s Champions League final.

City boss Pep Guardiola revealed that the 32-year-old Belgian international would be out of action for “a few weeks.”

The club has not yet furnished an update on the extent of the injury, but when the 22-man squad list for the Athens game was published on City’s official website on Monday afternoon, De Bruyne’s name was conspicuously absent.

Since his £55 million transfer from Wolfsburg in August 2015, De Bruyne has been a pivotal figure for City, earning recognition as one of the most accomplished midfielders globally.

In addition to De Bruyne, midfielder Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias were also left out of the squad.

Dias wasn’t in the opening league fixture due to concussion protocols. Meanwhile, Kalvin Phillips, Jack Grealish, and John Stones, who was previously sidelined by injury, were included in the squad after being unused substitutes or absent in the last match at Burnley.
